同事們玩Sega Genesis的Mutant Hockey League, 懷緬一番.
面對最近十分繁忙的工作, 頭兒某天捧來一個大紙箱, 一看裡面是一套中古Sega Genesis (日稱Mega Drive, 又稱世嘉五代)加上Mega CD和大堆遊戲. 頭兒說他是自己掏腰包把整套買來放在公司裡舒緩工作壓力的. 效用果然是有的, 大家熟手地抬來一部大電視(當然不用LCD), 幾下手腳接好電線, 吃著午飯的我就看著兩位同事在他們兒時常玩的Mutant Hockey League上重拾刺激了. 後來更有同事把私伙的Genesis遊戲也帶回來分享, 而我後來也玩了原祖NBA JAM, 以前經常到朋友家玩的. 說起來我現在做的工作跟這遊戲的關係都可算根深柢固, 每次想起來都有點難以置信.
其實自那次之後, Genesis便進入封塵狀態了 -__-|| 工作實在做不完, deadline又不能一拖再拖, 變成吃飯不離工作了. 完事之後, 定必要在Genesis上大玩一場!
Before the Christmas break, as a thank-you everybody in the team was given a nicely framed pledge. This is my first full-time job since graduation and also the first item of gratitude that I received since joining the team (they did let me pick two games to take home, but no personal touch there). As a contractor this brings a nice sense of belonging to the team for me, even though I understand there is still quite the distance between my current status and that of a “true” employee.
It has been a great experience working for this team so far, and I was pleasantly surprised when they handed me this on the last day of work. However that excitement was quickly withdrawn and kept to myself when I noticed that everybody else had the “ugh, this again” look on their faces while holding the pledge.
This is one step closer towards having my name on a game’s credits list.
Three weeks ago I received a phone call, here’s what happened in a nutshell:
“hey Steve, remember that thing you were working on back in janurary?”
“of course?”
“well, it’s not working like it should be. Lots of bugs. We are currently doing a 24/7 coverage thing for it, would you be able to come in for two weeks?”
“definitely, what’s 24/7 coverage?”
“see here’s the thing, you will be covering the evening portion of the coverage. The shift starts at 11pm.”
“but that would mean I will be working til..”
“..uh yeah.”
“I’m in.”

自十月跟EA的約完之後, 一直都是在休息/自修和尋找新的機會. 自己本身比較想試試在規模小一點的地方工作, 但一月來尋覓也不果. 就在納悶之時有天收到一個電話, 是一向負責聯絡合約員工的Stacy. 問我28號星期五有沒有空, 我說行. 但當問到細節時卻好像不太肯說(九成是被NDA封住嘴了), 只是說那就約定了, 早上九點大堂等…

Glad to have been assigned to focus on the 360 version since week 2, the PS3 ver. is hard to enjoy..
No more overtime these days, off work at 5:30pm yay!
Still can’t tell you how my weekends have been yet, since haven’t had one since mid-August.
Do me a favor when you get the game next month, hold LT and click your right stick three times after you score a goal. This has been my signature move in the team, it brings out both smiles and curses from people.
Another good trick is hold down RB and do 8963217874123698 with your right stick (go around clockwise once and then counter clockwise once, see numpad). Soon as the somersault starts, you must press A whenever the player’s head/feet touches the ground, otherwise the celebration will end with a tragic wipeout.
Club mode is very sophisticated, not only can you recruit people to join your club and play together, you can also post up club news in a blogging manner or send private messages to members.
Also saw the PSP dev kit.. interesting
Bought Spore, to be honest I wouldn’t make the purchase right away if I had to pay retail… but Will Wright doesn’t bullshit I know that much, so I definitely cannot wait to give it a shot. Maybe it’s time to also let the old pc have a taste of DX10 with a graphics card upgrade?
Company patio bbq on a Friday, they call it Forget-It-Friday which means everybody gets off work an hour early, gather at the patio and enjoy all the grilled burgers and cold alcohol you can consume. From the patio you get a really nice view of the famous EA sports grounds, so I capped a pic..
Impressive? Most definitely. But some say that it is official size? Largely incorrect.

I’m sure I’ll have more to say, but I’m running low on sleep and energy these days. I hope to stay in good shape to the end of this project because it has been really enjoyable, so i’ll come back and write some more next week when things are over and I can haz moar free time. I also appreciate my family and the missus for their understanding on the fact that I’m at work at least twelve hours everyday, it is definitely a brand new experience for me too. And for the people who thinks they are the victim of me finding a job that I truly value and enjoy and blaming me for not being able to dish out a few hours because I need rest from my (on average) 70 hour work weeks so that I don’t collapse: Get over yourself, grow the fuck up and start paying respect to people who deserves. I’m out.
踏足業界了!! 今日用了八小時測試傳說中的10對10連線對戰, 未來兩星期也是. 初步感覺(based on near-beta PS3 ver.):

吃完還有半小時, 可以玩原祖烏蠅機! 不用投幣的, free play FTW.
也有其他幾部街機, 有我喜歡的Outrun 2 SP最重要是有久違了的SF3.3!! 還是要跟隊玩的, 我當然是被神人秒殺. 現在有衝動把DC版拿出來練練.
說到尾, 雖然弊病不少, 但自己入球時有9人為你喝彩感覺真的不錯(聽到對方全隊十人同時嘆息感覺更不錯).
